ABSTRACT:
The health benefits of probiotics are not limited to the gut. Among the many mechanisms on how these systemic health benefits arise, the modulation of the gut microbiota composition through probiotic intake is an important one, as it can impact the metabolic milieu in the gut, and thus regulate specific host cell pathways and responses. In this context, we present a clinical study focused on the use of a well-characterized combination of probiotic strains L. rhamnosus IMC 501® and L. paracasei IMC 502®, named SYNBIO®, that can improve inflammaging and the nutritional status of the elderly.
