Brief description of the job position

The work in our laboratory is highly dynamic and versatile. It includes experiments of screening of the performances of the strains in production or from the culture collection, microbiological analyses and molecular biology, using state of the art methods for metabolic engineering and robot screening. The final goal is to increase the knowledge of the potentialities of our strain, for different applications, and also to obtain even better performing strains. The data generated in our laboratory will be crucial for the other departments to design new products. The most promising strains are then tested in the Pilot Plant, wherefrom the best ones moved to Production scale.

Naturally, the profile of the candidate should reflect the above working environment, and the selected candidate should be a proactive team player with a positive attitude for the daily challenges. Practical laboratory work and generation of new ideas are both central.

Activities/Main responsibilities

  • Screening of microbial strains for different physiological features.
  • Data analysis.
  • Generation of improved strains through molecular microbiology or classical mutagenesis approaches and selection with specifically designed screening systems.
  • Work closely with other research scientists to plan the experiments and exchange of information, both inside and outside the department.

Competencies

  • Accuracy and precision in the lab work.
  • Attitude in planning and work organisation.
  • Problem solving.
  • Result-oriented.
  • Proactivity and dynamism.
  • Excellent relational skills and attitude to team work.
  • Data analysis and critical evaluation.

Background

  • PhD within molecular microbiology, biotechnology, or a related field.
  • Practical experience in microbiology (at least 3 years), ideally with lactic acid bacteria.
  • Experience with screening techniques and data analysis.
  • English, spoken and written.

Contract

Chemical-Pharmaceutical National Collective Labor Agreement (CCNL) with level and remuneration commensurate with the candidate’s actual experience.
